This policy explains how the Android app QRouting (package com.qrouting), by QRouting Software, handles your information. It applies to version 5.10 and later.

Summary

QRouting does not collect, store on any server, sell or share any personal data. The app has no user accounts, no advertising and no analytics. It connects to the Internet only to download the weather of your route and for the Google Play license check, and it uses your location only on your device.

Data kept on your device

The routes, aircraft, performance and weight and balance data, waypoints, the last weather report downloaded and the settings are stored only in the private storage of the app on your device. Other apps cannot read them, and we never receive them.

Uninstalling the app or clearing its data in the Android settings deletes all of it.

Location

The app asks for permission to use the location of your device (GPS) to show the nearest airports and VORs, to report your position from the nearest VOR and to add your position as a waypoint. The location is used only on your device, while you are on those screens: it is not sent anywhere and it is not kept, except the waypoints you add yourself. You can deny or remove this permission in the Android settings; the rest of the app works without it.

Weather

When you ask for the weather report of a route, the app downloads the METAR and TAF of the weather stations near the route from aviationweather.gov, a service of the US National Weather Service. The request contains only the codes of those stations (for example LEMD), not your location or any data about you. As with any website, that server receives the IP address of your connection. Its use is covered by the privacy policy of the National Weather Service.

Files you import

When you import a copy of the database or the database of a previous version, you pick the file in the Android file picker. The app reads only the file you choose, and only to copy its routes, aircraft and waypoints into the app.

Files and routes you share

When you save a copy of the database, export a route (GPX or GeoJSON), send a route to OruxMaps or write to us by email, the app passes the file or text to the destination you choose (a folder, a cloud drive, a map app, an email app...). This happens only when you ask for it. Once it is in that destination, the privacy policy of that app or service applies.

Android backup

If backup is turned on in your device, Android may save the app's database and settings in your Google account, so they are restored when you install the app on a new device. This backup is done by Android and Google, not by us, and we cannot access it. It is covered by the Google Privacy Policy, and you can turn it off in the backup settings of your device.

Google Play license check

QRouting is a paid app. When it starts, it asks the Google Play Store app of your device whether the app was bought with the Google account of the device. Google Play answers only whether it was bought: the app does not receive your name, email or any other account data, and it keeps the answer only on your device. This check is done by Google Play, under the Google Privacy Policy.

Children

The app is a tool for pilots and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect any data from anyone.
